Introduction

In a constantly evolving world, music adapts to new technologies to offer unique and accessible experiences to all. Among these evolutions, online piano concerts are experiencing growing popularity. Through virtual performances broadcast live or recorded, music lovers now have the opportunity to explore a multitude of styles and interact with artists from around the world, all from the comfort of their home.

One of the first and largest live broadcast concerts was Elvis Presley’s in 1973, connecting 54 different countries by satellite from the International Center Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii. It marked music history with an exceptional concert that would achieve the best television audience, surpassing man’s first steps on the moon in 1969. This historical moment’s audience was estimated at one and a half billion viewers worldwide, which remains an unmatched record in the musical field to this day!

This evolution has been particularly striking since the COVID-19 crisis and the numerous lockdowns marking the world. This difficult period created in many people a desire to express themselves, gather, and share, so many artists used live events to continue broadcasting and sharing their music.

Why Watch Online Piano Concerts?

The advantages of online piano concerts are multiple. The global accessibility of these events allows everyone, regardless of their geographical location, to enjoy professional-quality performances from their own home. This ease opens new doors and allows a diverse audience to connect with artists from around the world.

Furthermore, virtual concerts offer real flexibility in scheduling, allowing everyone to choose the time that suits them best to attend or review a performance. This freedom of planning harmonizes perfectly with our often busy modern lives, offering an opportunity to immerse oneself in music without constraints and giving artists the opportunity to reach more people.

Finally, the interactive aspect of online piano concerts creates an immersive and enriching experience for the audience. Viewers can interact with artists in real-time, ask questions, share reactions, and even influence the concert’s progress, such as choosing the next song or changing the decor live. This direct connection between artists and their audience creates a unique bond.

Where to Watch a Virtual Piano Concert?

To attend online piano concerts, several platforms are at your disposal, each offering a unique experience. First, streaming giants such as YouTube Live and Twitch offer a multitude of live piano concerts, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in real-time performances and interact with artists and other viewers via live comments. For example, The Piano Guys, a group of 4 American artists who became known on YouTube and are currently on tour, often organize live concerts. There’s also Pianist Magazine that broadcasts them.

Next, specialized websites dedicate themselves exclusively to broadcasting online piano concerts. These platforms offer a carefully organized selection of internet performances, allowing piano lovers to discover new artists and immerse themselves in various musical styles. We particularly think of medici.tv, Piano Street and Stage+.

Finally, social networks play an increasingly important role in discovering online piano concerts. Many artists share their live performances or recordings on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, thus offering a window into their talent and creativity to music lovers worldwide.

You can find great singers in live piano-voice like Olivia Rodrigo on YouTube or one of the greatest pianists Lang Lang, but also Sofiane Pamart in rebroadcast on Radio Nova, Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Kirill Gerstein on Arte Concert or Kevin Chen performing Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt on www.medici.tv.

Not Just for Professionals!

Online piano concerts are also an opportunity for piano amateurs to actively participate in the online music scene. In addition to attending virtual performances, they can also launch into the adventure by sharing their own talent with the world.

Thanks to social networks, pianists can build their audience and online community by sharing videos of their performances and interacting with other music enthusiasts. This increased visibility allows them to connect with other musicians, receive encouragement and advice, and even find collaboration opportunities with other artists. In short, online piano concerts are not limited to passive listening but also open the door to a participatory and enriching experience for piano amateurs worldwide.

The Most Impressive Online Concerts!

Online music performances offer a panoply of possibilities that a physical event couldn’t rival, and that’s exactly the opportunity found and experimented with by the metaverse. With ever more visual effects and sound effects whose only limit is imagination.

Live concerts open to all on numerous platforms mentioned above but also on video game platforms like Fortnite or Roblox. As surprising as it may be, the popular battle royale game has become an essential venue for virtual concerts after hosting Lady Gaga and Aya Nakamura in online concerts, The Weeknd and Madonna (for an exclusive video clip) and after collaborating with DJ Marshmallow, Ariana Grande or Eminem. The most impressive of all is Travis Scott’s concert in 2020, a stunning worldwide performance that according to Epic Games, the show, titled Astronomical, was seen by 12.3 million unique players during its first broadcast (totaling 27.7 million viewers after four replays).

Roblox, another popular virtual universe, has also embraced music with concerts by Lil Nas X or Twenty One Pilots who made spectacular appearances giving multiple performances and interacting with fans.

A digital show also took place on TikTok by artist Calvin Harris for a performance of his greatest hits, with the possibility to watch the concert in virtual reality with a headset and dance from home. Dua Lipa attracted crowds with her virtual concert Studio 2054 featuring many other singers like Kylie Minogue, Angèle or J Balvin to make more than 5 million viewers sing. In detail, the concert recorded 1.9 million connections from China alone but also 95,000 from India. More than 263,000 tickets would have been sold via traditional ticketing platforms.

And finally, the event called “One World: Together at Home” was conceived as “a moment of global unity in the fight against Covid-19.” So that confined viewers around the world could attend an impressive online concert bringing together dozens of stars like Taylor Swift, the Rolling Stones, Celine Dion, and many more.

These artists performed their songs online for six hours, the entire concert lasted eight hours. The concert was viewed more than 23 million times on Global Citizen’s YouTube channel and more than 6.2 million times on ABC’s YouTube channel. The Twitter live totals more than 8.7 million views and the Facebook live more than 8.8 million. The number of viewers around the globe is estimated at more than 270 million.
